MD 1088 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 364...386... FOR
EASTERN OKLAHOMA THROUGH NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS
Mesoscale Discussion 1088 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0150 AM CDT Sun Jun 16 2019
Areas affected...eastern Oklahoma through north central Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 364...386...
Valid 160650Z - 160815Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 364,
386 continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for strong to damaging wind gusts may continue next
couple of hours from eastern OK into north Central TX. Activity
will move east of ww 386 after 08Z. However, an overall weakening
trend is expected to persist, and a downstream WW is not anticipated
at this time.
DISCUSSION...Squall line stretching from northeast OK east of
Tulsa into north central TX is moving east at 35-40 kt. The faster
movement has been noted on the northern end where a 50 kt rear
inflow jet exists just south of the center of an MCV circulation.
Despite strong forcing along the leading gust front within a
strongly unstable (2500-3000 J/kg MLCAPE) environment, trends
have been for reflectivity to decrease. This suggests the MCS is
struggling with increasing convective inhibition associated with a
stabilizing boundary layer. While locally strong to damaging wind
gusts may continue along portions of the line next hour or two,
a longer duration severe threat does not appear likely.

MD 1087 CONCERNING SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY FOR SOUTHERN
ILLINOIS THROUGH CENTRAL AND NORTHERN INDIANA
Mesoscale Discussion 1087 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0114 AM CDT Sun Jun 16 2019
Areas affected...southern Illinois through central and northern
Indiana
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 160614Z - 160715Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Localized strong to damaging wind threat may persist across
southern Illinois and central through northern Indiana through about
08Z. The temporal and areal extent of the threat is not expected
to be sufficient for a WW, but trends will continue to be monitored.
DISCUSSION...Central through northern IN - Bowing line segment
continues east through extreme northeast IL and northwest IN at 45
kt. Activity is strongly forced in association with an MCV. The
outflow boundary is in the process of merging with an east-west
quasi-stationary front and the apex of the bow will likely move
into a more stable surface layer where temperatures are in the low
to mid 60s F north of the front. Though a short-term (1-2 hour)
window will exist for a threat of mainly damaging wind gusts,
activity should begin to weaken by 08Z.
Southern IL - Storms are consolidating along the southern end of
a southeast-advancing outflow boundary and have become slightly
better organized within the last 30 min. The downstream atmosphere
is moderately unstable and a 40-50 kt southwesterly migratory
low-level jet will maintain moist inflow and maximize convergence
next couple hours. These storms will likely continue southeast along
the instability gradient next hour and pose a localized strong to
damaging wind threat. There storms are further removed from the
forcing associated with the MCV, so confidence is not particularly
high for a longer duration severe threat.

 SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1254
AM CDT Sun Jun 16 2019
Valid 161200Z - 171200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MUCH OF
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL TEXAS...AND CENTERED OVER MARYLAND...
...SUMMARY... Scattered strong to severe storms capable of wind
and hail are expected over parts of Texas, with a few centered over
Maryland during the late afternoon.
...Synopsis... A belt of 40 kt midlevel southwesterlies will extend
from northern TX across the OH Valley and across New England, with
various small ripples/disturbances embedded in the flow. One small
shortwave trough related to ongoing convection will affect OK and TX,
with a moist and very unstable air mass south of an outflow boundary
supporting scattered severe storms mainly over TX. A moist air mass
with mid to upper 60s F dewpoints will extend northeastward across
the OH Valley and toward the Mid Atlantic, south of an elongated
stationary front and parallel to the stronger flow aloft.
...Central and northern TX... An MCS will affect parts of north TX
along the Red River early this morning, and may persist into the day
across parts of eastern TX with a wind threat. Behind this activity,
an outflow boundary will be left behind across north TX. To the
south, heating of a moist air mass during the day will lead to over
4000 J/kg SBCAPE with steep lapse rates aloft. New development is
likely along preexisting boundaries, and modest low-level veering
of the winds with height may support a brief supercell or two,
though winds aloft will be weak. Large hail will be possible with
cellular activity, with damaging winds possible with any MCS. Given
weak winds aloft, storms are likely to move slow initially.
Uncertainty exists as to how far north the threat will exist due to
boundary position, but at least isolated strong storms are possible
into northwest TX.
...Northern VA, MD, southern PA and DE/NJ... A low amplitude
shortwave trough will emanate out of the OH Valley and travel quickly
toward the area, providing an increase in mean winds and shear along
a weak front. Cool temperatures aloft and 35-40 kt deep layer shear
will favor cellular activity capable of hail, along with localized
strong wind gusts. While hodographs will be straight, deviant storm
motions along with 30 kt southwesterly 850 mb winds may provide up
to 200 m2/s2 effective SRH, with a supercell possible.
...Northeast CO...western NE...eastern WY... Cool temperatures
aloft will remain over the region beneath 20-25 kt midlevel winds
aloft. Weak easterly surface winds will aid westward moisture
advection, with steep low-level lapse rates emanating out of CO
into NE. Deep mixed layers will result in uncapped soundings with
marginal instability. Late afternoon cells capable of marginal hail
and wind are possible, mainly from northeast CO into southeast WY
and southwest NE.

 SPC 0600Z Day 2 Outlook
Day 2 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0100
AM CDT Sun Jun 16 2019
Valid 171200Z - 181200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS
OF THE MID ATLANTIC...
...SUMMARY... Isolated severe thunderstorms may occur across
parts of the Mid Atlantic into the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and mid
Mississippi Valley on Monday. Other strong to severe storms will
also be possible over portions of the southern/central High Plains.
...Mid Atlantic into the OH/TN Valleys and Mid MS Valley...
A subtle vorticity maximum should be present over the OH Valley
Monday morning, and will likely move eastward across portions of
the Mid-Atlantic through the day. A nearly stationary front should
extend west-east across PA and vicinity. To the south of this
boundary, strong diurnal heating is expected, with temperatures
likely climbing into the upper 80s and 90s along/east of the Blue
Ridge Mountains. This heating coupled with a moist low-level airmass
will support moderate to strong instability developing by early
afternoon across much of the Mid Atlantic. Ascent associated with
the vorticity maximum should encourage initial convective development
across the higher terrain of WV and western MD, subsequently moving
eastward across northern VA, MD/DC, southern PA/NJ, and DE through
the evening. Forecast soundings from the GFS and NAM show sufficient
effective bulk shear (generally 30-40 kt) to support multicells and
perhaps some marginal supercell structures. Damaging winds will
probably become the main threat as storms attempt to grow upscale
into a small bowing complex, although isolated large hail may occur
initially as well.
Another weak shortwave trough over MO/AR at the beginning of the
period should move northeastward across the OH valley into confluent
flow and slowly weaken. Still, a belt of modestly enhanced mid-level
flow associated with this feature should overlie a moist warm sector
that will be present to the south of a weak surface boundary. Weak
to locally moderate instability coupled with marginal shear may
support occasional updraft organization, with both a damaging wind
and hail threat with any storms that form across from the mid MS
Valley into the OH/TN Valleys Monday afternoon and evening.
...Southern/Central High Plains... Some increase in mid-level
westerly flow should occur across parts of the southern High Plains
by late Monday afternoon, and isolated to perhaps widely scattered
storms may form along a surface dryline. Both low and mid-level
lapse rates are forecast to steepen through the day across this
region, with moderate to locally strong instability probable. There
should be enough mid-level flow to provide some potential for
storm organization as convection moves slowly eastward through
early evening. Isolated instances of large hail may be noted with
more cellular activity initially, with some increase in the strong
to damaging wind threat with eastward extent. Generally modest
shear magnitudes still suggest the overall threat remains somewhat
marginal.
Farther north, a northern-stream shortwave trough should move across
the Dakotas on Monday, and storms may develop along a weak front
from MN/SD into NE and eastern CO. Even though low-level moisture
should remain limited, weak to locally moderate instability should
develop by peak afternoon heating south of the front in combination
with modest shear. There is enough signal in latest guidance for an
isolated hail/wind threat with this activity to extend the Marginal
Risk northward across parts of the central High Plains.
...MAXIMUM RISK BY HAZARD... Tornado: 2% - Marginal Wind:
15% - Slight Hail: 15% - Slight

Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1226 AM CDT Sun Jun 16 2019
Valid 161200Z - 171200Z
...NO CRITICAL AREAS...
...Synopsis... Generally light quasi-zonal flow will prevail across
the CONUS, with the only modest flow confined to the northern-most
tier of states. By the end of the forecast period, a weak
mid-level trough will settle into the Great Basin region. Despite
relatively dry conditions persisting across portions of southern New
Mexico/Arizona into southern Nevada and the adjacent Sierra Nevada
Mountain range, the lack of any appreciable upper-level flow should
temper the overall fire-weather concerns today. Perhaps locally
elevated fire-weather conditions may develop in far southern Nevada
and adjacent areas, where afternoon winds may reach sustained speeds
of 15-20 mph amidst RH values in the lower teens and marginally
receptive fuels.

...Synopsis... The weak quasi-zonal flow pattern is forecast
to persist through Monday, with the weak mid-level trough in the
West settling into portions of southern California. Once again,
dry conditions will persist across portions of southern New
Mexico/Arizona into southern Nevada/California. However, surface
