...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... Isolated thunderstorms may occur today across portions
of the Southwest. Severe thunderstorms are not expected.
...Synopsis... An upper-level cyclone will continue to move farther
offshore east of the Florida coast. Within the midsection of the
country, upper-level ridging will shift out of the Mississippi
Valley and into the Southeast. Along the West Coast, a shortwave
trough currently situated west of the Baja Peninsula will pivot
to the northeast into Arizona, eventually ejecting into central
Plains. At the surface, a weak boundary will move through Arizona
by late afternoon.
Isolated, relatively low-topped thunderstorm activity is possible
along/near the boundary as forcing for ascent increases across
Arizona through about mid-afternoon. While deep-layer winds will be
strong and mid-level temperatures cold, precipitation/cloud cover
is expected to limit destabilization such that only 100-300 J/kg
of MUCAPE appears likely.

...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... A couple of thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday
along and near the coast of central/southern California. Severe
thunderstorms are not expected.
...Synopsis and Discussion... An upper trough over the eastern
Pacific Wednesday morning is forecast to move over the West Coast
through the period, eventually consolidating into a closed low just
off the coast of southern CA by early Thursday morning. A focused
zone of large-scale ascent shifting slowly southward along the coast
of central/southern CA should be associated with a mid-level jet
embedded within the upper trough. Although mid-level lapse rates
will likely remain modest, very weak instability extending deep
enough through the troposphere may support a couple of thunderstorms
along/near portions of the central/southern CA Coast. Thunderstorms
are not expected across the remainder of the CONUS on Wednesday.

...NO CRITICAL AREAS...
...Synopsis... A shortwave trough will approach the southern High
Plains during the this afternoon. A large moisture plume evident on
satellite water vapor imagery will continue to stream northeastward
across the region. Ample mid- and high-level clouds are expected. At
the surface, very modest deepening of a lee trough in the central
High Plains will increase the surface pressure gradient, particularly
within the TX/OK Panhandles vicinity. Despite the dry low-level
airmass sampled by 00Z regional RAOBs, continued moisture influx
should help RH recover enough to mitigate fire weather concerns
during the afternoon. Winds will also likely remain light (10-15
mph) in most locations on account of poor boundary-layer mixing,
though localized winds near 20 mph may occur.
