SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1137
PM CST Wed Jan 29 2020
Valid 301200Z - 311200Z
...NO THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... The chance for thunderstorm development is very low
across the United States today and tonight.
...DISCUSSION... West southwesterly mid-level flow will remain in
place today from the southern Plains east-northeastward to the Ohio
and Tennessee Valleys. An upper-level trough will dig southeastward
across the southern High Plains. At the surface, a cold and dry air
mass will be in place from the Great Plains eastward to the Eastern
Seaboard. The dry airmass will limit thunderstorm development
across the U.S. today and tonight. No severe threat is expected.

SPC 0700Z Day 2 Outlook
Day 2 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1232
AM CST Thu Jan 30 2020
Valid 311200Z - 011200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER SOUTH
FLORIDA...
...SUMMARY... A few severe storms are possible over south Florida
Friday night. Isolated damaging wind gusts and a couple of tornadoes
will be the main threats.
...South Florida...
A southern-stream shortwave trough will deamplify as it moves from
the northwestern Gulf early Friday into the Southeast States and
Carolinas later in the day and evening. By Friday morning a stalled
front will be situated just south of the FL Peninsula and into the
Gulf. Only very weak cyclogenesis is expected over the Gulf during
the day. Primary surface low and accompanying low-level jet will
form farther east over the Gulf stream Friday night with arrival
of deeper forcing attending the progressive shortwave trough. As a
result the warm front will only make limited northward progress into
south FL. Destabilization with 400-800 J/kg MLCAPE is expected as
dewpoints rise into the upper 60s F along and south of the warm
front. Thunderstorms are expected to spread into south FL Friday
night as the atmosphere destabilizes within the evolving warm
advection regime. Strongest winds aloft and primary low-level jet
accompanying the shortwave trough will remain north of the warm
sector. However, effective bulk shear (40-50 kt) will be more than
adequate for embedded organized storms including potential for
supercells with isolated damaging wind and a couple of tornadoes
where 0-1 km hodographs will be maximized in vicinity of the
warm front.
...MAXIMUM RISK BY HAZARD... Tornado: 5% - Slight Wind:
15% - Slight Hail: 5% - Marginal
