...Discussion...
Large-scale pattern is expected to change little through
the day1 period. The predominant feature Wednesday will be an
expansive area of surface high pressure that will extend across
most of the contiguous United States. As a result, meaningful
moisture/instability will be shunted offshore and any disturbances
that eject across low latitudes will struggle to generate deep
convection. While moisture/instability will be limited across the
Gulf States, pockets of weak elevated buoyancy may contribute to
shallow convection north of the frontal zone where warm advection
is expected to aid precipitation. While a lightning flash or two
can not be ruled out within the strongest showers, the probability
for thunderstorms appears less than 10%.

...SUMMARY... A lightning flash or two is possible early Thursday
morning near the Louisiana coast, before thunderstorm potential
diminishes rapidly through the morning.
...Synopsis...
A cold front will extend along the Gulf coast into central FL early
Thursday morning. A lightning flash or two is possible along the
front, near the LA coast the first hour or two of the period.
However, as a strong surface high develops southward into the
southern Plains, and an upper trough pivots across the eastern
U.S., the cold front will quickly surge southward across the Gulf
of Mexico and offshore the FL peninsula, negating thunderstorm
potential across the CONUS. Thunderstorms are not expected elsewhere
across the CONUS and less than 10% coverage will preclude general
thunderstorm delineation.

...Synopsis... A broad upper trough will cover much of the central
and eastern CONUS today, while an upper ridge becomes established
over the Pacific Northwest. At the surface, high pressure will
remain dominant, with generally cool conditions and very limited
fire weather threat expected for most areas. Weak offshore flow will
redevelop over southern CA late tonight into Thursday morning, but
winds and fuel conditions appear too marginal for any substantial
fire weather concerns.
