The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Tornado Watch for portions of Far northern Georgia Far southwest
North Carolina Northwest South Carolina Eastern Tennessee
* Effective this Saturday evening from 610 PM until 1000 PM EDT.
* Primary threats include... A couple tornadoes possible Scattered
large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible Isolated
damaging wind gusts to 65 mph possible
SUMMARY...Multiple, low-topped supercells will continue to pose a
risk for a couple tornadoes and severe hail, before weakening later
this evening.
The tornado watch area is approximately along and 60 statute
miles north and south of a line from 35 miles west southwest of
Crossville TN to 15 miles northeast of Greenville SC. For a complete

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable
for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the
watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and
possible warnings.
AVIATION...Tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface
and aloft to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts
to 55 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 400. Mean storm
motion vector 25040.

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 148 continues.
SUMMARY...Local/brief tornado risk may spread out of WW 148 into
south-central North Carolina.
DISCUSSION...While severe risk has diminished across most of Tornado
Watch 148, a small corridor exists over northwestern South Carolina
near/to the cool side of the wedge front where a few supercell
storms are ongoing. While likely to be slightly elevated just to
the cool side of the front, the storms continue to exhibit weak
low-level rotation. Given the presence of the low-level boundary
lying west-to-east across this area, a brief tornado spin-up remains
a possibility over the next hour or so.
While this slightly-more-favorable zone of minimal CAPE but ample
shear extends east of the watch into south-central North Carolina,
a new Tornado Watch is not expected, as the already marginal
thermodynamic environment diurnally worsens.

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS
OF THE WESTERN CAROLINAS...
...SUMMARY... Isolated severe thunderstorms remain possible
tonight across portions of the southern Appalachians to coastal
North Carolina.
...Southeast...
Earlier thunderstorm activity that developed over northern GA has
progressed east-northeast along slowly retreating warm front into
northwest SC. Several long-lived supercells extend from Oconee
to Cherokee County SC and appear to be along/just north of the
actual wind shift. Air mass downstream is recovering slowly across
southwestern NC and the current speed/movement of this convection
suggests it could travel another 70-80 mi before storms encounter
a more stable boundary layer. Will maintain a narrow corridor of
5% tornado probabilities to account for these supercells tracking
along/near the warm front where surface-based buoyancy is currently
maximized.
Late tonight, air mass is expected to recover along the NC Coast
as surface dew points rise through the 60s. There is some concern
that sustained low-level warm advection may contribute to a few
supercells near, or just inland. Given the uncertainty, and limited
area, will not raise tornado/wind probabilities for this scenario.
