...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER A PORTION OF
THE SOUTHEAST STATES AS WELL AS EASTERN OREGON AND WESTERN IDAHO...
...SUMMARY... A few strong to severe storms capable of mainly
damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado remain possible tonight from
north Florida into a portion of Georgia and the Carolinas. Other
strong storms capable of downburst winds and hail are possible this
evening over eastern Oregon and a portion of Idaho.
...Northern Florida through Georgia and the Carolinas...
A cold front stretching from a surface low over the Great Lakes
southward through the southern Appalachians and northeast Gulf will
continue east tonight, approaching the Atlantic coast Thursday
morning. A strong southerly low-level jet associated with an
amplifying upper trough will persist in the pre-frontal warm sector
and contribute to only modest moistening, with dewpoints generally
from 60-65 F. The weak lapse rates and ongoing areas of rain will
significantly limit instability tonight with MUCAPE generally near
or below 500 J/kg. Areas of showers and thunderstorms will persist
along the warm conveyor belt. Activity will be embedded within an
environment characterized by strong vertical shear. A few organized
structures capable of strong wind gusts and a brief tornado are
possible tonight. However, the marginal thermodynamic environment
should remain a limiting factor for a more robust severe threat.
...Eastern Oregon into western and southern Idaho...
High-based storms are developing this evening in vicinity of a cold
front and within an environment characterized by steep lapse rates,
up to 500 J/kg MLCAPE, and strong deep-layer shear. Deep inverted-V
profiles will support a risk for isolated downburst winds, and some
hail is also possible. Activity should begin a diminishing trend
later this evening as the boundary layer begins to stabilize.
