...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... Severe thunderstorms are not forecast across the
contiguous United States today.
...Synopsis... Several low-amplitude shortwave troughs will move
through the broad upper troughing in place across the central and
eastern CONUS. Progression of these systems will reinforce the
cold, stable air mass already in place east of the Rockies, limiting
instability and preclude thunderstorm development. The only exception
is along the front in southern FL where sporadic lightning strikes
are possible. However, coverage is expected to be less than 10%.
Farther west, southwesterly flow aloft will strengthen across much
of CA and the Great Basin ahead of an approaching shortwave trough.
Resultant moistening of the low-levels coupled with cooling mid-level
temperatures closer to the shortwave will support showers and
occasional embedded thunderstorms. Best chance for thunderstorms
appears to be 00Z-06Z. Some small hail is possible but limited
instability and elevated character to the storms should keep the
probability of severe weather very low.
