 SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0650
PM CST Sat Feb 27 2021
Valid 280100Z - 281200Z
...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM EASTERN
OKLAHOMA TO THE TENNESSEE VALLEY...
...SUMMARY... Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms remain
possible from eastern Oklahoma to the Tennessee Valley tonight.
...01z Update...
In the absence of meaningful mid-level height falls, it appears
low-level warm advection will be the primary driving mechanism for
deep convection through sunrise. Multiple thunderstorm clusters
have evolved from northern AR, east into middle TN where a bit
more intensity is currently observed. This leading cluster of
storms has progressed a bit farther east than earlier anticipated
so probabilities will be adjusted to account for this development.
Thermodynamically, 00z soundings from OUN, SGF, LZK, and BNA all
exhibit mid-level lapse rates on the order of 7 C/km with MUCAPE
generally less than 500 J/kg; although OUN had roughly 800 J/kg.
LLJ should focus across eastern OK over the next few hours then
increase as it veers into southeast MO by 12z. This should continue
to aid elevated convection, some of which may produce marginally
severe hail, or gusty winds.
