SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0700
PM CST Wed Mar 10 2021
Valid 110100Z - 111200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM NORTHERN
OKLAHOMA THROUGH SOUTHEAST KANSAS INTO WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI...
...SUMMARY... A few severe storms with a threat for mainly large
hail and a couple of strong wind gusts are possible mainly later
tonight from extreme northern Oklahoma into southeast Kansas
and west central Missouri. Otherwise a marginal risk for severe
storms persists through mid evening from eastern Iowa into western
Wisconsin.
...Northeast Oklahoma, southeast Kansas to west central Missouri...
Early this evening a few thunderstorms are developing along a
southeast-advancing cold front from northern Missouri through
southeast KS where the atmosphere is marginally unstable. Theta-e
advection along a strengthening southwesterly low-level jet will
result in further destabilization with up to 1500 J/kg MUCAPE,
mainly for parcels lifted from above the surface, across OK and
southeast KS tonight. Additional slightly elevated thunderstorms
will likely develop later tonight where moderate instability, steep
mid-level lapse rates and strong effective shear will support a
threat for large hail and possible a few strong gusts.
...Upper Mississippi Valley region...
Thunderstorms continue developing along warm conveyor belt across
eastern IA as well as in advance of a progressive vorticity maximum
across northwestern WI. These storms are embedded within strong
vertical shear and large 0-2 km hodographs supportive of severe
storms. While some severe threat remains possible through mid
evening, a stabilizing boundary layer along with an increasingly
marginal thermodynamic environment suggest overall severe threat
will remain somewhat marginal.
