...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... Aside from parts of the Pacific Northwest, the risk
for thunderstorms appears negligible across much of the U.S. through
daybreak Saturday.
...01Z Outlook Update.. Lightning production, in convection
beneath/downstream of the relatively compact mid-level low
now progressing into the Pacific Northwest coast, has generally
diminished from early to mid day peak near Washington/Oregon coastal
areas. West of the Cascades, beneath the mid-level low center,
destabilization has remained minimal due to the relatively cool/dry
boundary layer. Farther inland, more substantive daytime heating,
beneath the cold mid-level air, has contributed to at least a bit
more appreciable CAPE across parts of the Columbia Plateau vicinity,
where attempts at deepening convective development are ongoing.
It is possible that a weak thunderstorm or two could still form,
before diurnal cooling commences.

I remember once being on a station platform in Cleveland at four
in the morning. A black porter was carrying my bags, and as we
were waiting for the train to come in, he said to me: "Excuse me,
Mr. Cooke, I don't want to invade your privacy, but I have a bet with
a friend of mine. Who composed the opening theme music of 'Omnibus'?
My friend said Virgil Thomson." I asked him, "What do you say?" He
replied, "I say Aaron Copeland." I said, "You're right." The porter
said, "I knew Thomson doesn't write counterpoint that way."
I told that to a network president, and he was deeply unimpressed.
