WW 204 SEVERE TSTM OK TX 252105Z - 260400Z
URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 204
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
405 PM CDT Tue May 25 2021
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Western Oklahoma
West/Northwest Texas
* Effective this Tuesday afternoon and evening from 405 PM until
1100 PM CDT.
* Primary threats include...
Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5
inches in diameter possible
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
A tornado or two possible
SUMMARY...Multiple corridors of severe thunderstorm development are
expected, most probable near residual outflow and the dryline/front
across west/northwest Texas. While winds through a deep layer are
not overly strong, ample moisture/instability will support some
transient supercells aside from more prevalent multicells. Large
hail will be the primary risk initially. Storms should eventually
cluster and accelerate southeastward across the region this evening
with a large hail/severe wind risk continuing toward the Low Rolling
Plains and west/northwest Texas as well as western Oklahoma.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 80
statute miles east and west of a line from 80 miles northeast of
Borger TX to 45 miles west southwest of San Angelo TX. For a
complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline
update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU4).
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
&&
OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 203...
AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
2.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector
31020.

MD 0742 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 204... FOR WEST TEXAS
Mesoscale Discussion 0742
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1010 PM CDT Tue May 25 2021
Areas affected...west Texas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 204...
Valid 260310Z - 260415Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 204
continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for isolated large hail and downburst winds will
persist next couple hours across portions of west TX. WW 204 is
scheduled to expire at 04Z, but a local extension might be needed
for a portion of the WW.
DISCUSSION...Storms continue developing along the east-west oriented
boundary across the northern TX Panhandle with some backbuilding
noted with the westernmost storm. These storms remain organized as
supercells with hail in excess of 2.5 inches recently reported. The
surface layer is stabilizing, and convective inhibition is
increasing. However, forcing associated with a strengthening
southerly low-level jet interacting with the boundary might help to
sustain these storms for another 1-2 hours.
Farther south, a cluster of widely scattered storms persist in the
area between Lubbock and Abilene. Tendency has been for these storms
to expand northeastward along an outflow boundary, but general trend
has been for most of this activity to weaken slightly. It is
probable that at least a couple of storms will persist beyond 04Z,
especially the activity just south of Abilene that appears to be
more organized.

Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0756 PM CDT Tue May 25 2021
Valid 260100Z - 261200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF
THE UPPER GREAT LAKES/UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND OVER PARTS OF THE
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS...
...SUMMARY...
Scattered severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds
will continue for the next few hours across portions of the upper
Mississippi Valley/western Great Lakes. Isolated hail/wind are also
expected tonight across the southern High Plains into south-central
Kansas.
...Wisconsin/UP of MI...
Earlier thunderstorm activity that developed ahead of the wind shift
over western WI has matured into an MCS that has now propagated into
northeast WI, extending into central WI. This activity will likely
remain fairly robust as it approaches the southern UP of MI and
northwestern portions of Lake Michigan; however, intensity should
wane some as it propagates toward lesser moisture region over
northern lower MI tonight.
Reference MCD#740 for more information on convection across IA.
...Central/Southern Plains...
Steep low-level lapse rates and moderate-high instability continue
across the southern High Plains into south-central KS this evening.
Latest water-vapor imagery suggests a very weak disturbance may be
enhancing convection across west TX this evening but the primary
mechanism by which this activity has matured is the lack of CINH,
available buoyancy, and low-level convergence near the dry line.
Additionally, LLJ is forecast to strengthen after sunset and one or
more MCSs may ultimately evolve across this region. 00z sounding
from AMA exhibited a modest wind field that would support slow
southeastward-moving thunderstorm clusters. DDC sounding has also
sampled the northwestern edge of the moist boundary layer with
negligible CINH. Latest visible satellite imagery suggests
thunderstorms may develop along the boundary extending into the
eastern OK Panhandle over the next hour or so. If so, another
thunderstorm cluster could emerge that would propagate toward
northwestern OK later this evening.
