MD 0853 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 237... FOR EASTERN MONTANA
Mesoscale Discussion 0853
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0910 PM CDT Fri Jun 04 2021
Areas affected...eastern Montana
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 237...
Valid 050210Z - 050415Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 237
continues.
SUMMARY...The threat for sporadic severe gusts and marginal hail
continues over parts of eastern Montana this evening.
DISCUSSION...Several left-moving cells are currently moving
east/northeast along the northern fringe of WW 237, and may produce
marginal hail as well as strong wind gusts. The 00Z soundings from
TFX and GGW show mainly unidirectional flow aloft, with up to 50 kt
just below 500 mb. The GGW sounding in particular shows a good
hodograph for splitting cells.
Deep mixed layers are also noted due to warm surface temperatures,
with little CIN currently. Therefore, while convection remains
sparse across parts of the watch, additional activity may yet
develop over the next 1-2 hours along various outflows, with both
wind and marginal hail threat.

Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0729 PM CDT Fri Jun 04 2021
Valid 050100Z - 051200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF
CENTRAL AND EASTERN MONTANA...
...SUMMARY...
Severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of central and
eastern Montana through the remainder of the evening. Damaging wind
gusts are expected to be the primary risk.
...Mid-Atlantic Vicinity...
The overall severe threat has waned across much of the Mid-Atlantic
as storms have largely moved offshore. A couple of strong storms
capable of gusty winds may still be possible the next couple hours
across parts of northeast NC and extreme southeast VA where a
Marginal risk will be maintained. Aside from this small area, severe
probabilities have been removed from southern New England southward
along the Atlantic coast.
...Montana to northern MN...
The Slight risk has been removed from far northeast MT, northern ND
and extreme northwest MN. Thunderstorms in the vicinity of a weak
surface trough across ND have generally been weak and disorganized
early this evening. As inhibition continues to increase with loss of
daytime heating, severe potential will further diminish, though some
gusty winds are possible with stronger cells the next couple of
hours and a Marginal risk will be maintained. Further west,
thunderstorms continue to develop over higher terrain of central MT
amid steep midlevel lapse rates and adequate shear. A few organized
cells/clusters could produce strong gusts and hail for a few more
hours this evening.
