Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0734 PM CDT Sat Jul 03 2021
Valid 040100Z - 041200Z
...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EASTERN
COLORADO...WESTERN NEBRASKA...AND SOUTH-CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA...
...SUMMARY...
Thunderstorms capable of widely scattered severe gusts and isolated
large hail are forecast this evening from eastern Colorado northward
into central South Dakota.
...Central High Plains northward into the Dakotas...
Water-vapor imagery this evening indicates a broad mid-level trough
over the north-central U.S. into southern Canada, and several
smaller-scale disturbances are migrating eastward across the
north-central U.S.Several clusters of strong to severe
thunderstorms in the vicinity of a lee trough are expected to
persist within this elongated corridor through much of the evening,
aided by a strengthening southerly LLJ.Steep low-level lapse rates
will favor the development of isolated to widely scattered severe
gusts into the mid evening hours before gradually nocturnal cooling
and stabilization leads to a lessening of this risk.In the
short-term (next 1-2 hours), a hail risk may accompany the stronger
cores before severe gusts become the primary hazard.
...AZ...
A conglomeration of thunderstorms and associated cold pools have
recently amassed on the Mogollon Rim and will probably propagate
southward into the greater Phoenix area this evening.Very steep
low-level lapse rates, implied by large surface temperature-dewpoint
depressions, will potentially favor strong to locally severe gusts
with this activity this evening. For short-term details, refer to
MCD 1145.
