The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Southeast Arizona
Western and Central New Mexico
Far West Texas
* Effective this Sunday afternoon and evening from 220 PM until
1000 PM MDT.
* Primary threats include...
Scattered large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible
Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
SUMMARY...Widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will
continue to develop initially over the mountains this afternoon, and
subsequently drift generally south-southwestward toward southern New
Mexico/far West Texas and far southeast Arizona through the late
afternoon and evening. Instances of severe hail and wind can be
expected.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 110
statute miles east and west of a line from 65 miles northeast of
Cuba NM to 35 miles south southwest of Deming NM. For a complete

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER NEW MEXICO
AND EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA...
...SUMMARY...
Scattered severe storms remain possible from Arizona into New
Mexico, and over parts of eastern Pennsylvania.
...AZ and NM...
Scattered storms persist this evening across much of NM, with a
notable clustering across south-central NM. These storms will move
toward the El Paso area, with damaging wind gusts and hail likely.
Otherwise, isolated cells may persist for a few more hours across
southeast AZ with mainly a wind threat. For more information see
mesoscale discussions 1260 and 1261.
...PA into NJ...
A line of storms continues to move from central into eastern PA,
toward a warm front/instability gradient across eastern PA and NJ.
Modest low-level shear exists ahead of these storms, with minimal
capping noted on area 00Z soundings. A few strong wind gusts or a
brief tornado may yet occur, but an eventual weakening trend is
likely as the boundary layer continues to cool this evening.
