Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0740

Valid 190100Z - 191200Z

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS
OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...

...SUMMARY... Severe thunderstorms with hail and isolated damaging
wind gusts will be possible across parts of the eastern Texas
Panhandle, northwest Texas and Oklahoma this evening.

...Southern Plains... An upper-level ridge is currently located
from the central Rockies into the northern High Plains. To the east
of the ridge, mid-level flow is from the north across much of the
Great Plains. At the surface, a frontal boundary is located from the
eastern Texas Panhandle eastward across south-central Oklahoma. A
cluster of thunderstorms is ongoing along and to the north of the
boundary, with more isolated thunderstorms located to the south. The
RAP is analyzing a pocket of moderate to strong instability from
northwest Texas northward into much of Oklahoma and the eastern
Texas Panhandle. The instability combined with 0-3 km lapse rates
in the 7.5 to 8.5 C/km range will make isolated severe wind gusts
possible with the stronger multicells...see MCD 1316. Hail could
also occur with the stronger updrafts. The threat should diminish
later this evening as the boundary layer cools.
