...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF
EASTERN WASHINGTON/OREGON AND COASTAL NORTH CAROLINA...
...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe thunderstorms remain possible this evening over parts
of central/eastern Oregon and Washington into far western Idaho. A
low-probability risk for a brief tornado is forecast across far
eastern North Carolina overnight.
...01z Update...
Only minor changes have been made to the 20z outlook, mostly to
reflect latest lightning trends.
Latest water-vapor imagery depicts a substantial short-wave trough
progressing inland along the WA Coast. Deep convection has developed
in two primary areas ahead of this feature, the strongest being
thunderstorm clusters east of the Cascade Range where surface
temperatures warmed into the 90s. This activity is likely producing
gusty winds and perhaps marginally severe hail. Another cluster of
storms developed in closer proximity to the upper ridge over eastern
OR. This air mass is a bit drier but gusty winds may also be noted
with this convection for the next few hours. Large-scale support
should aid longevity of convection across WA as heights will be more
suppressed near the international border overnight.
Numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms continue across the
eastern portions of NC, extending southwest along the coast into
southeastern GA. Will maintain low tornado probabilities for any weak
supercells that evolve within this marginally supportive environment.
