The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Tornado Watch for portions of
Southwestern Alabama
Western Florida Panhandle
Southeastern Louisiana
Southern Mississippi
Coastal Waters
* Effective this Sunday night and Monday morning from 645 PM
until 600 AM CDT.
* Primary threats include...
A few tornadoes possible
SUMMARY...Hurricane Ida will continue to translate northward (see
latest NHC advisory for tropical watches/warnings and
track/intensity guidance).As it does, a favorable air mass for
supercell/tornado potential will spread gradually inland overnight.
The tornado watch area is approximately along and 60 statute miles
north and south of a line from 40 miles northwest of Slidell LA to
20 miles northeast of Pensacola FL. For a complete depiction of the
watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU4).
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
REMEMBER...A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...This tornado watch replaces tornado
watch number 472. Watch number 472 will not be in effect after
645 PM CDT.
AVIATION...Tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail
surface and aloft to 0 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind
gusts to 60 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean
storm motion vector 13045.

GULF COAST REGION...
...SUMMARY...
A few tornadoes remain possible tonight across the central Gulf
Coast in association with Hurricane Ida.
...Ida...
Hurricane Ida continues its northward motion with a
well-identifiable eye currently moving into southern St. John the
Baptist Parish.Strong convective bands are noted across the
eastern semicircle of Ida, initiating roughly 70 mi offshore, arcing
across southeast LA before losing their identity within a broader
shield of precipitation. Will not adjust severe probabilities
appreciably during the overnight period as the forecast track
continues per earlier guidance.
...OH Valley...
An elongated band of broken convection extends across southern
ON-northwest OH-northern IN. This activity has gradually weakened
over the last few hours, especially south of the international
border where only a narrow corridor of modest buoyancy currently
exists. Latest diagnostic data suggests strong convection may linger
for the next few hours across mainly northwestern OH where MLCAPE is
holding around 2000 J/kg. Nocturnal cooling and the lack of
large-scale support will limit severe threat across this region.
