Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR THE BLACK
HILLS VICINITY...EAST-CENTRAL COLORADO...AND MAINLY SOUTHEAST
KANSAS...
...SUMMARY...
Isolated severe storms with a localized hail/wind threat may occur
this evening for the Black Hills vicinity, parts of the central High
Plains, and mainly portions of southeast Kansas.
...Black Hills south into the central Plains...
Water-vapor imagery shows a mid-level shortwave trough over
southeast MT moving east into the western Dakotas.A plume of
low-level moisture overlaid by steep lapse rates, will support a
risk for a few strong to severe storms from eastern WY into SD/NE.
The supercell-related severe risk will likely diminish by mid to
late evening.
Farther south, a squall line over east-central CO will continue
southeast during the evening.Surface observations with the
convective line have thus far remained below severe thresholds.
However, an isolated risk for a severe gust remains before the
boundary layer cools further and nullifies this threat.
A cluster of storms near the north-central OK/KS border will
continue to move to the east-northeast within a weak forcing setup
near a west-east baroclinic zone.A localized risk for a severe
gust may continue well into the evening given the moderate
buoyancy/modest deep-layer shear scenario.
