...SUMMARY...
The threat for severe storms appears negligible across the CONUS
tonight into 12Z Monday.
...Synopsis...
An amplifying mid-level trough continues to track eastward over the
Desert Southwest as surface lee troughing intensifies over the
Plains states this evening into the overnight. Occasional lightning
flashes have recently been observed across portions of the
Intermountain West, and additional isolated thunderstorms may
continue developing overnight given the presence of cool 500 mb
temperatures (-20 to -25C) and associated steep mid-level lapse
rates. A couple of thunderstorms may also develop across the
southern and central High Plains early Monday morning as the
aforementioned cooler temperatures begin to overspread the western
periphery of a low-level jet and associated northward return of
modest moisture return.
Scattered thunderstorms are ongoing across the southern tip of the
Florida Peninsula along and ahead of a southward-sagging cold front.
These storms are expected to gradually diminish in coverage and
intensity tonight due to convective overturning and nocturnal
cooling/stabilization of the boundary layer.
