SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1104
PM CST Sun Jan 06 2019
Valid 071200Z - 081200Z
...NO THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... The risk for thunderstorms appears negligible across
the U.S. today through tonight.
...Synopsis... Broadening large-scale mid/upper troughing,
which has generally emerged from the mid-latitude Pacific, and is
comprised of a number of smaller-scale perturbations, is forecast
to continue progressing across and east of the Rockies during
this period. This is being preceded by a substantive influx of
mid/high-level moisture, within a narrow plume emanating from the
subtropical eastern Pacific. However, associated precipitation
across the lower Missouri Valley into the Upper Midwest is falling
through relatively dry/potentially cool mid/lower levels. This is
impeding low-level warming and potential destabilization, and will
continue to do so while spreading across parts of the Great Lakes
and Ohio Valley, into the Northeast, today through tonight. At the
same time, boundary layer modification over the western/northern
Gulf of Mexico remains modest, and it appears unlikely that inland
moistening, on pre-frontal southerly low-level return flow, will
contribute to sufficient destabilization to support an appreciable
risk for thunderstorms.

SPC 0700Z Day 2 Outlook
Day 2 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1245
AM CST Mon Jan 07 2019
Valid 081200Z - 091200Z
...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... Thunderstorms will be possible along parts of the
West Coast on Tuesday but no severe weather is expected.
...DISCUSSION... An upper-level trough will move eastward across
the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys on Tuesday as an upper-level ridge
moves into the Rockies. Further west, an upper-level trough will
approach the West Coast. Large-scale ascent ahead of the upper-level
trough along with enhanced low-level flow along the coast from San
Francisco, CA to west of Medford, OR will make conditions favorable
for a few lightning strikes. Instability will be too weak for a
severe threat. Elsewhere across the CONUS, thunderstorms are not
expected Tuesday or Tuesday night.
...MAXIMUM RISK BY HAZARD... Tornado: <2% - None Wind: <5%
- None Hail: <5% - None

SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1241 AM CST Mon Jan 07 2019
Valid 071200Z - 081200Z
...Synopsis... A strong mid-level jet will continue to bring
wet conditions into much of the western CONUS on Monday. The
precipitation across much of this area will lead to moist conditions
and limit fire weather concerns. The exception is in the High
Plains where persistent westerly flow will lead to downslope flow
and drying. This may lead to some increased fire weather concerns
in portions of eastern Colorado on Monday.
...Eastern Colorado into far southwest NE, northwest KS, and
far northern NM.... The combination of lee troughing and deep
mixing will lead to gusty winds in much of eastern Colorado on
Monday. Sustained wind speeds are expected to peak in the 25 to
30 mph range during the afternoon. In the wake of a cold front,
temperatures are only expected to warm into the low 50s within much
of the elevated area. These cool temperatures will likely only
allow relative humidities to drop to the 18 to 25 percent range
justifying an elevated fire weather risk.

SPC Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1242 AM CST Mon Jan 07 2019
Valid 081200Z - 091200Z
...NO CRITICAL AREAS...
...Synopsis... A cool, continental airmass will persist across much
of the CONUS on Tuesday which will limit fire weather concerns. There
may be some gusty winds in the wake of the cold front from central
Texas into the northeast, but temperatures will be cool enough and
relative humidities high enough to alleviate any concern for large
fire spread. Some gusty winds may also be possible on the Pacific
coast, but recent heavy rainfall and moist onshore flow should
preclude large fire spread.

Lassie looked brilliant, in part because the farm family she lived with was
made up of idiots. Remember? One of them was always getting pinned under
the tractor, and Lassie was always rushing back to the farmhouse to alert
the other ones. She'd whimper and tug at their sleeves, and they'd always
waste precious minutes saying things: "Do you think something's wrong?
Do you think she wants us to follow her? What is it, girl?", etc., as if
this had never happened before, instead of every week. What with all the time
these people spent pinned under the tractor, I don't see how they managed to
grow any crops whatsoever. They probably got by on federal crop supports,
which Lassie filed the applications for.
