SPC MD 1940

MD 1940 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 567... FOR FAR EASTERN
GEORGIA...SOUTH CAROLINA...FAR SOUTHERN NORTH CAROLINA

Mesoscale Discussion 1940
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0943 PM CST Thu Nov 10 2022

Areas affected...Far Eastern Georgia...South Carolina...Far Southern
North Carolina

Concerning...Tornado Watch 567...

Valid 110343Z - 110545Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 567 continues.

SUMMARY...A tornado threat is likely to continue into the overnight
period across parts of eastern Georgia, southeastern South Carolina
into far southern North Carolina.

DISCUSSION...Tropical Storm Nicole is currently located near the
Georgia-Florida state-line to the north of Tallahassee. An inner
rainband is located to the north of the center, with an outer
rainband located from eastern Georgia extending eastward into
southern South Carolina and then offshore. The WSR-88D VWP at
Columbia has strong speed shear in the lowest kilometer above
ground, which is resulting in about 40 knots of 0-1 km shear and 0-3
km storm relative helicity just above 450 m2/s2. This kinematic
environment will be favorable for storm rotation, and possibly a
tornado or two with cells that move inland from the coast. The
tornado threat is expected to continue into the overnight period.

SPC Nov 11, 2022 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook

Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0636 PM CST Thu Nov 10 2022

Valid 110100Z - 111200Z

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF THE
CAROLINAS INTO FAR EASTERN GEORGIA...

...SUMMARY...
A couple brief tornadoes remain possible from far eastern Georgia
into parts of the Carolinas. Marginally severe hail may occur late
tonight into Friday morning over parts of southwest Texas.

...GA/SC/NC...
Strong low-level shear and moistening low levels to the right of the
track of TC Nicole will continue to favor low-topped convection with
the potential for brief tornadoes within the stronger convective
bands. The most favorable areas will be from the GA/SC border this
evening northeastward into southern NC tonight as dewpoints rise
into the lower 70s F. The 00Z CHS sounding shows minimal SBCAPE with
a 70 F dewpoint, suggesting higher values may be required for a
tornado risk.

...Southwestern TX...
A cold front will surge south across TX tonight with cooling aloft
with the approaching upper trough. This front may focus storm
development after 09Z Friday morning as low 60s F dewpoints get
undercut. Forecast soundings show lengthy, straight hodographs and
cool temperatures which could favor elevated storms producing
marginally severe hail.
