SPC MD 334
MD 0334 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 77... FOR SOUTH CENTRAL AND
SOUTHEASTERN KENTUCKY...MIDDLE INTO EASTERN TENNESSEE....NORTHERN
ALABAMA
Mesoscale Discussion 0334
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1055 PM CDT Fri Mar 24 2023
Areas affected...south central and southeastern Kentucky...middle
into eastern Tennessee....northern Alabama
Concerning...Tornado Watch 77...
Valid 250355Z - 250630Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 77 continues.
SUMMARY...An organized line of thunderstorms may pose a continuing
risk for damaging wind gusts another couple of hours, but this
threat probably will diminish across the Cumberland Plateau by 2-3
AM EDT. A new severe weather watch currently seems unlikely, but
trends will continue to be monitored.
DISCUSSION...A well organized convective system continues to evolve
to the east and south of the mesoscale convective vortex, preceded
by a notable meso low migrating northeastward near/northwest through
north of Nashville vicinity. Richer boundary-layer moisture
characterized by 60s F+ dewpoints is becoming cut off near the
southern Tennessee border, which model forecast soundings indicate
will minimize destabilization northeastward across middle Tennessee
toward the Cumberland Plateau. However, 70s F+ surface temperatures
have been maintained in a plume wrapping into the center of the meso
low.
Given the strength of the west-southwesterly lower/mid-tropospheric
wind fields (40-70+ kt in the 850-700 mb layer) impinging on the
rear of the convective system, the low-level thermodynamic profiles
with warm and unsaturated layers may support a continuing risk for
downward mixing of potentially damaging gusts to the surface. This
probably will persist at least another hour or two, but may begin to
diminish as forcing for ascent spreads into the Cumberland Plateau
toward 06-07Z, where the boundary layer remains cooler and warm
advection may not contribute to appreciable warming.

MD 0333 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 76...77... FOR NORTHEASTERN MS INTO
NORTHWESTERN AL
Mesoscale Discussion 0333
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0957 PM CDT Fri Mar 24 2023
Areas affected...Northeastern MS into northwestern AL
Concerning...Tornado Watch 76...77...
Valid 250257Z - 250400Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 76, 77 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe threat, including the potential for strong
tornadoes and damaging winds, continues across parts of northeastern
MS into northwestern AL.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar data from GWX depicts a well-organized
supercell cluster tracking east-northeastward across northeastern MS
this evening. Ahead of this storm, lower 60s dewpoints are spreading
northward in response to continued cyclogenesis to the north --
supporting surface-based inflow. With a strengthening low-level jet
over the area (70+ kt 850-mb winds) sampled by the GWX VWP,
hodographs are becoming increasingly favorable for intense
supercells (even if embedded in line segments). Given the ample
streamwsie vorticity and surface-based inflow for this storm, strong
tornadoes and damaging winds remain possible from northeastern MS
into northwestern AL.

SPC Center Public Severe Weather Outlook (PWO)
Public Severe Weather Outlook
PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0848 PM CDT FRI MAR 24 2023
...Severe thunderstorms expected over parts of the northern
Mississippi into adjacent parts of northern Alabama and middle
Tennessee overnight...
* LOCATIONS...
Northern half of Mississippi
Southwestern Tennessee
Northwestern Alabama
* HAZARDS...
A few intense tornadoes
Scattered damaging winds, some hurricane force
* SUMMARY...
Scattered severe thunderstorms are likely across parts of the
lower Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley tonight. Several
tornadoes are possible, including the possibility for a few
strong tornadoes, and scattered damaging gusts.
Preparedness actions...
Tornadoes at night can be particularly dangerous because they
are usually fast-moving and difficult to see. Stay tuned to
NOAA Weather Radio, weather.gov, or other media for watches and
warnings. A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable
for tornadoes to form during the next several hours. If a tornado
warning is issued for your area, move to a place of safety,
ideally in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a
sturdy building.

SPC Mar 25, 2023 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook
SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook CORR 1
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0814 PM CDT Fri Mar 24 2023
Valid 250100Z - 251200Z
...THERE IS AN ENHANCED RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PORTIONS OF
THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY INTO THE TENNESSEE VALLEY...
CORRECTED FOR AN ERROR IN THE SIGNIFICANT TORNADO PROBABILITY LINE
...SUMMARY...
Scattered severe thunderstorms are likely across parts of the lower
Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley tonight. Several tornadoes
are possible, including the possibility for a few strong tornadoes,
and scattered damaging gusts.
...01z update for the lower MS Valley north into the lower OH
Valley...
Ongoing extensive band of thunderstorms from the lower OH Valley
into the lower MS Valley will continue to progress
east-northeastward this evening and into the overnight hours, in
advance of a migratory mid-level shortwave trough. A surface low is
forecast to continue to deepen and develop northeast from northeast
AR into IN by early morning tomorrow. A warm front will advance
northward tonight into parts of the lower OH Valley as the moist
sector (via a marine front) advances northward into northern MS.
Considerable uncertainty exists on the northern portion of the
outlook area across the lower OH Valley where very strong wind
fields will be present in a gradually destabilizing airmass
featuring scant to weak buoyancy. Have lowered forecast severe
probabilities across this region due primarily to weaker instability
and increased confidence in only limited buoyancy developing before
a band of storms overspreads the area from the west tonight.
Farther south, a mixed mode of linear storms and supercells will
likely traverse the northern portion of a moist/more unstable
airmass near and south of a marine warm front. Strengthening
low-level shear/SRH will favor storm organization in the form of
persistent mesocyclones. A couple of longer-track supercells are
possible and a few of these supercells will likely pose a tornado
risk. A few strong tornadoes are possible. As storms gradually
grow upscale tonight and move into weaker instability over the TN
Valley, a gradual lessening in tornado potential is expected. In
the meantime, scattered damaging gusts are probable with the more
intense storms before more limited severe-wind coverage ensues.
