The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Central and eastern Iowa
Extreme northwestern Illinois
* Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 955 PM
until 400 AM CDT.
* Primary threats include...
Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events
to 2 inches in diameter possible
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
A tornado or two possible
SUMMARY...A band of storms, some with supercell structures, will
continue spreading eastward from central into eastern Iowa
overnight. The primary threats will be large hail and damaging
winds with the embedded supercells or short bowing segments, though
a tornado or two may also occur with embedded circulations.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 70
statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles north northeast
of Cedar Rapids IA to 45 miles southwest of Ottumwa IA. For a

SUMMARY...Severe storms are expected to continue developing in a
line across Kansas into northern Oklahoma along a merged cold
front/dryline. The storm environment will favor embedded supercell
structures capable of producing large hail and damaging winds within
the line. An isolated tornado or two could occur with the strongest
storms in the line.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles north northwest
of Chanute KS to 60 miles south of Ponca City OK. For a complete

SUMMARY...Elevated supercells will spread northeastward from Iowa to
southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin through the early
overnight hours. Very large hail to tennis ball size (2.5 inches in
diameter) will be the main threat, though isolated damaging gusts
will be possible from northeast Iowa into southwest Wisconsin.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 55
statute miles north and south of a line from 50 miles south
southwest of Rochester MN to 15 miles east northeast of Madison WI.

northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas as a cold front merges with
the dryline. Isolated very large hail up to tennis ball size (2.5

possible with these storms. An isolated tornado or two could occur
with supercells or embedded circulations in the line of storms
expected tonight.

Tornadoes, severe thunderstorm gusts and large hail are possible
today and tonight from the Upper Great Lakes to central Texas.
Tornado potential is focused today over parts of Iowa/Illinois
this afternoon, and especially tonight over parts of the Ozarks
to the Arklatex region.
Preparedness actions...
Review your severe weather safety procedures for the possibility
of dangerous weather today. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio,
weather.gov, or other media for watches and warnings. A tornado
watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form

...SUMMARY...
Tornadoes, severe thunderstorm gusts and large hail are likely
tonight from the Upper Great Lakes to central Texas. The threat
tornadoes continues tonight over parts of the Ozarks to the Arklatex
region.
...01Z Update...
...Eastern IA...Northern/Central MO...IL...
Regional radar over the past hour or so has shown a trend away from
a more discrete mode over central IA, with only two significant
supercells currently remaining, one over Jasper and Poweshiek
Counties in IA, and the other affecting Tazewell, Peoria, Fulton,
and Mason Counties in central IL. Forecast regarding the supercell
in central IL was address in recently issued MCD #465, which
mentions this isolated supercell may continue for the next 1-2
hours.
Expectation for the remainder of the evening is for additional
thunderstorms development along the front as it moves through the
region. The environment remains favorable for severe thunderstorms
within this line of storms, with the threat for large hail, damaging
gusts, and embedded tornadoes all possible throughout the evening.
...ArkLaTex into southern MO/IL tonight into early Wednesday...
Low-level moisture continues to advect northward across east TX and
Lower MS Valley. This is expected to continue throughout the evening
and overnight ahead of the approaching cold front, with upper 60s
dewpoints likely in place across all of AR by early Wednesday
morning. Mid 60s will likely stretch into central MO. This increased
low-level moisture will be coupled with strengthening warm-air
advection, attendant to the strengthening low-level jet, and
modestly increasing large-scale ascent. Given the breadth of the
warm sector and relatively broad ascent, confidence in exactly where
storms will initiate remains low and could occur anywhere from
northeast TX into southern MO. That being said, the overall
environment continues to suggest that any mature storms should
become supercellular with all severe hazards possible. There remains
a serious concern for nocturnal tornadoes over AR and MO.
...South TX...
Thunderstorms initiated within the very warm and moist environment
across south TX. Isolated hail and damaging gusts are possible for
the next hour or two before the onset of nocturnal cooling and
resulting low-level stabilization likely results in storm demise.
Additional storms are possible early Wednesday morning along the
front.
