GE All, and welcome to the Oct. 19, 2026 PCL
Net. Early checkin from Endaf, N6UTC...and
Scott, K0WAV.
Net order is Daryl, Wayne, Bob (NY), Carl,
Rick, and whoever else shows up.
NK5LA:
I won't be here next week, due to having a
nuclear chemical stress test and an
echocardiogram done next Monday...so, Bob
(NY), will take the net for me. I plan to be
back for Election Eve, but I'll be happy when
all of that is over. The ones who are sad are
all the losers (obviously), the radio and TV
stations, the billboard companies, the print
publications, and the sign and decal shops,
when all that business goes away. I hope to
go early voting this week...as I'd rather
not stand in line on Election Day.
The day before Election Eve is the time change
back to Standard Time. Most net times won't
change, but UTC Time is an hour later. For
nets that run on UTC Time, and if you observe
the time change, your net checkin time will
be an hour earlier. I was going to rework the
D-Star, D-Rats, and Echolink Net lists to have
all 4 US Time Zones, but with "The Sunshine Act"
still stalled in the "do-nothing-Congress" (that
is normal for them), and other areas making time
changes as well, I may just leave it alone, or
create one with just UTC Time...since the contests
are on that, anyway.
I'm to do a license exam session this Saturday.
I have 3 going for Technician, and 1 for General.
It will be our last session until spring, as the
winter may be active with El Nino...but we need
rainfall more than anything else right now. High
to Extreme Fire Danger and burn bans cover the
region. It was in the 40s here at sunrise over
the weekend.
QSO One is really becoming the Swiss Army Knife
for ham radio, cheaper than the SharkRF OpenSpot
4 Pro and the M1KE. I'm set up on it, but haven't
used it for nets as of yet. I'm a "spark subscriber"
at $3 a month, and it's worth it...but being on a
fixed income, the cheapskate option was my only
choice. I also have several other ham radio apps
on my Android phone, but you can email me if you'd
like a list of them.
GE Wayne, how was your week??
**
KC2NJV:
GE all... The only "exciting" thing happening this
week is maybe, just maybe get my antennas will get
fixed.
Otherwise, it was 40 degrees around 7am this morning.
Getting ready for the NYC Marathon, I'm the co-captain
of mile 13.1 (1/2 way mark)... a day that starts at
4am (6am at the mile marker) and goes to around 4PM.
For others, the day is shorter or nearly 24 hours
long...
Enjoy your week....73, Wayne Kc2NJV
**
NK5LA:
Wayne, I hope you can get the antenna fixed, and
sounds like fall has arrived. GL with that NYC
Marathon...the Arkansas Traveler 100 mile run was
in early October. The main repeater they were using
failed, so they had to scramble for communications,
as it was a 24 hour event. Thanks for being here.
GE Bob, how was your week?? >>>
**
NS2B:
GE All.
Good week here! WX has been warm the last couple
of days. 20M has been hoppin' for a change.
Upgraded the node to the last release and it didn't
immediately die! Of course it may yet! hihi
And made a discovery that was less than intuitive
for me. Like many of you, I have a number of computers
around here that aren't boat anchors - good quantities
of ram, storage and fast processors, but Microsoft in
their wisdom has deemed them unfit for Windows 11. I'm
not opposed to going to Linux, as it's actually my
favorite OS, so all of them have gone to Linux. BUT -
if you load the latest VirtualBox on your Linux machine,
it will confidently load and run Windows 11!! So I have
a Windows 11 virtual machine running that'll eventually
take over radio programming duties from my Windows 10
virtual machine.
Still working on Hamword.
And, that's it for me! BTU Daryl >>>
**
NK5LA:
Bob (NY), first FB on the weather, 20 meters, and Hamword.
Of course, you've jinxed the node for next week (hi hi).
To the deal on Linux and W11, so much for Bill Gates
saying that "640K of RAM ought to be enough for anybody"
(hi hi). GL with that setup.
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All And good luck with that stress test, Daryl. I had
one a couple of years ago, and man it was a workout!
I missed last week because we had a date with The
Mouse (Disney), and we had a lot of fun. There is a lot
more in Anaheim than I remember from the last time I was
at Disney back in the 80s. We had a terrific view of the
fireworks from our hotel room, so did not have to stay
all day just to see them. Very tiring, but I did better
with all the walking than I thought I would.
The weather in Phoenix is getting nice for a change. A
little chilly in the morning and not too hot in the
afternoon. Peak high today was around 91, which is not
too bad and is very nice the rest of the day.
I am working on new antennas for VHF and UHF. I had
trouble hitting a repeater a couple of weeks ago and
discovered that my J poles were way out of tune. Not
sure how or when that happened, but I need to work
on that.
I am trying to setup a vertical dipole and setup
something that lets me keep it inside (because of
the HOA) most of the time, but take it outside if
I really want the best performance.
Have not started HAMWORD yet this week, but plenty
of time left to go.
I am looking forward to the time change. We don't
change, but it will make for a better schedule for
this net in relation to my daily NTS net.
That's about it for this week. Sorry about the typos.
I am using telnet tonight and the backspace seems to
work differently. Oh, well.
Back to net >>>
**
NK5LA:
Carl, your only typos were talking about me and the
stress test. A fellow ham who had one of those said
"you feel like you have been shot". At least I'm not
crazy on consuming caffeine, but I have to lay off
all of that the day before, then fast beforehand.
As for the Disneyland trip, FB. I don't see how
folks can go to the amusement parks, etc., anymore.
I too, prefer standard time...hope you can get
things worked out with those antennas.
GE Rick, hope you have a good Thanksgiving...how
are things with you?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
Good evening Daryl and all on the NET.
We went to the coast between Oct 5 and 9, for
Arlene's class of 73 grad reunion and to visit
with family and friends while there. The grad
thing went well, the only people I knew were
one of our bride's maids and an old girlfriend...
it was pretty good!
Last week, nothing exciting went on... I got the
latest COVID and FLU shots and the associated
aches from that, but it didn't last long.
We have our provincial election on Saturday, but
we went and did the advance voting this past
Saturday. Our Granddaughter is working at the
polling station.. they sure grow up fast...
The weather here is starting to cool off, we had
30F yesterday morning, 41 this morning, and highs
are mid-forties. Starting to see snow on the high
peaks.
Radio wise, propagation has been poor, on 40M in
the mornings, and a bit better on 20M around noon.
At the moment, I am working on our club AGM
financial report... what a pain!!!
Thanksgiving was great! I think we attended three
dinners!
OK, that's all I have, so BTU Daryl >>>
**
NK5LA:
Rick, first, FB on the class reunion and family
visit. I'm to get my flu shot in mid-November,
but stopped doing covid shots a few years back,
as it drained my energy.
At least my polling place is only a mile away, so
the Lyft ride is cheaper, if I have to wait. I know
about those reports...I have to prepare one for my
QCWA Chapter soon. Sounds like you did some good
eating...that's the main holiday activity (hi hi).
That'll do it for round 1, back to the top for final
comments.
Wayne said he was a 1 rounder, so we'll move on.
Bob (NY), thanks for the use of the BBS, and for
being here for me next week. Anything else?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Nope, all done here - everyone have a good week - 73 >>>
**
NK5LA:
Take care, Bob. I'll let you know how things went.
Carl, anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
Nothing else from Phoenix. Good luck with that stress
test. 73 to all >>>
**
NK5LA:
Thanks, Carl. I thought those were common with waiting
in the ER and the Dr's office (hi hi).
Rick, anything else?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
Nope, thanks Bob for the use of the BBS, everyone have
a great week, stay sane, and 73 until next time,
BTU Daryl >>>
**
NK5LA:
Take care, Rick. See you next time.
That'll do it for tonight's net. I'll post the scribe
in the morning, as I have other stuff to do before some
more nets.
I'll see everyone in 2 weeks. 73 and GN DE NK5LA >>>
