PCL Net. Early checkin from Endaf, N6UTC.
Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Wayne, Rick,
Carl, and whoever else shows up.
I've ordered some ham radio items, including
new address labels (used for mailing and for
hamfest prize tickets), a Gold Subscription
with HamCall, plus a new Trains Net Badge.
The next batch of QSL cards will go out on
Wednesday. You can see what the QSL and eQSL
cards look like on my QRZ bio...where I have
added some ham radio certificates.
I had a credit from my healthcare HMO, so
I ordered 4 dozen hot dogs, buns, cheese
slices, ketchup, and Oreo Lemon Cookies
for dessert. It'll be a nice change from
the tuna variety sandwiches and Funions.
With all the food and other stuff, I've
moved all of my doctors appointments down
the road, as it were.
I got the day and time for my forum for
the Quarter Century Wireless Association
(QCWA) at the Huntsville Hamfest...it'll
be at 12 Noon on Saturday, Aug. 22. I am
so excited about this trip...so if you're
planning to attend the 2026 Huntsville
Hamfest, please stop by the QCWA Table
in the Main Hall, have an eyeball QSO with
me, and get a QSL card.
Speaking of which, I'm mailing these out to
hams by request, in the continental US, or
they can request a JPG image via email, or
get one via either eQSL.cc or DigiQSL. With
the first class postage now at 82 cents, I
will not be mailing a ton of these off!!
Thunderstorms are likely here Tuesday through
Wednesday, then it will get hot and dry. Up
into New England, there is a significant
severe weather threat. They're not expecting
severe weather here, but parts of south Texas
could see significant flooding.
I hope to soon start a local training and
trivia net on July 21, on a state repeater
network (I have the trivia and the training
material through May, 2030). But, if I get
"snubbed and shut down", as the club only
seems to want to do "public service events",
and be a one dimensional ham radio club, I
will tell them off, self ban myself from the
club's repeaters, meetings, etc., and walk
out of the room!! However, I'm doing plenty
of stuff in the hobby, that I'm not going
away anytime soon. So, you have still must
put up with me (hi hi).
I saw where Congress is again talking about
the making of Daylight Savings Time (or is
it Dumb Stupid Time??) permanent. However,
they likely are more concerned about the
midterm elections than anything else right
now. They get more recess time than I did
nearly 60 years ago in school!!

It was a pretty good week. Still chasing
satellite APRS, and still disappointed
with my current antenna. Pondering what
to do in that department.
Finished Hamword today. Took me 4 guesses!
Speaking of buying ham stuff. I just ordered
a P25 radio. Over the years I've had a
love/hate relationship with those. I enjoy
writing a code plug for them, but then there
is so little activity on P25, I end up selling
the radio. This will my 3rd try at it!
Nice QSL card Daryl! Thanks for that!
And good luck with your new net. Hopefully, it
takes off.

Bob, first, thanks for letting me know you got
the QSL card. QSL Works did a nice job on it.
Second, I printed up exam books for the new
Technician exam last night, and I saw a question
on DMR and code plugs!!
I hope the net takes off, and is not taken off,
but I'm prepared emotionally if it gets grounded.
A fellow ham is going to set up a portable beam
antenna in the front room, to get me better
coverage into some of the local repeaters, but
if I get "banned", I won't have to worry about
that.
There is an article in the August 2026 issue of
QST on the PCARS club in Ohio (I'm a Life Member).
They are what a ham radio club should be doing!!

Evening all, been an interesting week to say the
least...
The bad news: Randolph Mantooth died, for those
of us of a certain age, he and Kevin Tighe are
probably responsible for a whole generation of
EMTs, Paramedics and Firefighters (I was an EMT
for NYC EMS (Health and Hospitals Corp - pre
FDNY)).
Next up, my dog, a 15 year old 25 pound mutt
wasn't feeling well, very lethargic. Took him to
the vet and extracted 7 teeth...came though like
a champ....
On the Ham side, lost my cable for my sole antenna
again (2nd time) to some critter.....what a PIA....
but got my TYT in the car working.... and we're
about to connect to two new repeaters UHF that are
linked via an RF link...
Otherwise, everything else is status quo....

I guess I was last on here before Field Day, we made
out OK, between the two of us, we were over 100 contacts
phone and FT8.
It rained that whole weekend and as usual, I got soaked,
but the radio stayed dry. I should have learned from the
past couple of FDs and bought a new tent...nope...maybe
next year.
I have been off-air for the last week, rewiring the shack
lighting, and also going to paint the shack. It will
probably take another week, and then I'll have to put
it all back together.
Temp here is about 95F, so it's a good thing I'm working
indoors in the cool.

together.
They had Extreme Heat Warnings from Montana east into
the Great Lakes, and it was over 100 degrees in the
Dakotas!!

GE Everyone!
Well, been a bit of a quiet week here, but a little to
report.
Today was especially lazy, I had an outpatient procedure
to make sure my dialysis access keeps working properly,
so mostly rested after that today.
I did put in my first HAMWORD guess for the week late
last night, but have not checked back on that yet.
I had a beaglebone black that has been working as my
local gps-locked clock for the last decade or so, and
it started misbehaving, so I got a new raspberry-pi gps
hat from a place called Uputronics. Got it up and
configured and reworked my local network to use chrony
instead of ntp. So far all looks very good.
I have been thinking about trying to build an egg-beater
for satellite work, but so far that is still just in the
planning stages.
Daryl, one of the local nets here does a trivia thing
during drive-time on weekdays. It seems pretty popular,
so I hope your attempt is just as successful.
We are definitely into summer here, been 110 most days
or even a little hotter. We should be starting to see
monsoon rains soon, so maybe a little cooler for a
couple of days, but also more humid. I have been trying
to stay on the cool side of the door as much as possible.

Wednesday evening...but I have been busy with other
nets.
I too, would be resting after any medical procedure...
especially if I get to end the fast and pig out (hi hi).
Our hottest part of the year is still a month away.
FB on getting the GPS clock deal working again...hope
you can get that "egg beater" for satellites.

KC2NJV: Just a pet peeve with ARRL and Field Day....
The ARRL basically says anyone who isn't on HF
doesn't count.
That excludes a ton of Hams, either Technicians or
those who don't have an HF rig like me (I'm an Extra,
and no longer have HF)....
What a misguided effort...otherwise.

Wayne, even though I'm an Extra, with congestive heart
failure, and the way we get lightning around here, the
only HF I can do is with remotehams.com (the free one).
I did NOTHING for Field Day...except sleep.
Now, you know why, on my QSL card, that the ARRL is
next to the 3 RED SIGNALS (I only submit exam stuff
to them 4 times a year), and yet the QCWA is next to
the GREEN over 2 RED signals. So, it's like a STOP
on ARRL, and PROCEED with QCWA.
They are bleeding members, and they wonder why.
