RAOTC Broadcast Reminder
This is a reminder about the RAOTC broadcast for the 7th of December 2020; thatâ€Ös tomorrow night for those listening on Sunda
y.
As mentioned in the National News, the major item this month describes ‘Hamshack Hotlineâ€Ö a VOIP network specifically for h
am radio operators that can be used to coordinate and augment RF contacts worldwide.
Mark Oliphant might be best known in Australia as a former governor of his birth state of South Australia and founder of the Au
stralian Democrats Party. He spent some years on a team that developed high frequency radar used in WW2 then on a team that led
to development of the atomic bomb.
There is a brief description of ‘Twistronicsâ€Ö, its properties and applications.
A quote from a famous statesman that ‘persistence and determination are omnipotentâ€Ö.
Deep Space Station 43 in Australia renewed contact with the 43-year-old Voyager 2 satellite now 11.6 billion miles from earth.
This was after an upgrade of DSS 43 that left Voyager 2 flying solo for 7 months.
As usual this will all go to air in VK7 on the first Monday of the month at 7:30pm local time over the VK7RAA/RTC state-wide ne
twork and again at about 8:30pm as a telecast on VK7AX ‘Spectrum Tasmaniaâ€Ö via the BATC membersâ€Ö stream and in the Ulvers
tone area on 445.50MHz DATV.
The date this month is December 7th. Call backs will follow on both networks. Please call in if you are able. Callback statisti
cs are sent to RAOTC broadcast committee.
RAOTC Broadcasts are scheduled to resume in 2021 on February 1 at a new timeslot of 8pm local time over the VK7RAA/RTC network.
If you miss the off-air broadcasts you can listen to the audio file on the RAOTC website.

CHAT AND SHOW GROUP
The next gathering of the group is to be in January on Saturday the 2nd at our new venue in the Ulverstone Recreation Centre in
Flora Street West Ulverstone. Drive into the car park closes to the river and look for a notice saying Show Society Office on
the verandah and use that entrance and continue to the end of the corridor through the door at the end and you are in the room.
It is the middle of the festive season and some may be away, but then maybe there will be amateur visitors in the area at the t
ime that are welcome to drop in for a chat. The afternoon kicks off at 2pm and drop in is from 2pm until 3.30 and all amateurs
are welcome, it is not a club just a social group.
We have afternoon tea and I ask at this time due to COVID-19 to please make your afternoon tea offering a small one, and in a c
ommercially produced product where all precautions are necessary for the production of goods as advised by government regulatio
ns.
Remember all amateurs are welcome to visit from anywhere as long as they are Covid free, and not been close to an overseas trav
eller or someone infected, and do not have any symptoms - if you do have symptoms don't call.
If you have any questions contact me on 0417 392 583.

NW Tassie Amateur Repeater Group Net
North West Amateurs have indicated they would like a local repeater net
So, on Wednesday nights at 2000hrs local, the NW Tassie Amateur Repeater Group, will conduct a net on VK7RMD 146.625, 141.3 ton
e.
This repeater is located on Mt Duncan behind Penguin and the repeater has a large coverage area from Smithton to Launceston and
into the back country.
We want it to be informal, but run by a net controller, so everyone can get a spot to chat about what they are up to, projects
they are working on, ideas, propagation, anything radio and electronic related and we will be staying away from politics, relig
ion and all the other no nos.
This is totally independent of any clubs and organisation, and its aim is to foster relations between amateurs, and keep the PA
s in the radios used and warm.
Anyone who can hear the net is welcome to join in

Northern Tasmanian Amateur Radio Club Incorporated
www.ntarc.net
Yesterday Saturday 5th December the club held its last meeting for the year. Mind you, meetings this year have been rather spar
se due to COVID and restrictions. Hopefully 2021 will be a better year for us all. Will give you a brief rundown of meeting eve
nts in next weekâ€Ös news.
A shout out to Bill VK7MX, who is currently in hospital in VK3, expecting some surgery tomorrow. Best wishes from us all Bill,
hope you have a quick recovery.
2021 Membership fees – and the membership renewals have started to roll in. We say a big thank you to those members who have
paid their 2021 membership fees.
Renewal membership notices have now all been sent to members who have listed their email address with us, along with those memb
ers who have only a postal address listed with us. So, if you havenâ€Öt received your notice yet then there is every chance tha
t we donâ€Öt have your correct information on record. If you find yourself in this position, please contact the Treasurer on tr
easurer@ntarc.net or the Secretary on ntarc.emails @ gmail.com or catch up with them on a Friday coffee session.
In the interim, a reminder that NTARCâ€Ös 2021 membership fees are $35.00 for a Full voting member and $5 additional for each F
amily member that the voting member wishes to add to his or her primary membership.
Now over to Idris VK7ZIR to give you a run down on the Tech session held last Wednesday 2nd December 2020.
Idris says:
â€As this year draws to a close, we look forward to one more Technical Session at the Clubrooms before going into Christmas rec
ess.
To start the ball rolling, last session we had a vintage Drake VHF crystal controlled mobile transceiver from Ross VK7ALHâ€Ös c
ollection, which looked remarkably similar to a Kenwood radio of the same era. After some rummaging in his box room, Idris VK7Z
IR found a Kenwood TR2300 UHF transceiver which when compared side by side and inside with the Drake, was almost identical. A d
efinite case of â€badge engineeringâ€event will also be alive to allow members who cannot be present in person to continue thei
r participation via that medium.
January meeting –to be held on Saturday 9th January 2021. We will not be having a lunch on this day due to many members still
being away on holidays. Meeting will commence at 14:00 Hours (2.00pm) and will be followed by afternoon tea. Donations of cake
s, slices etc to share would be greatly appreciated.
February Annual General meeting – the Annual General Meeting of NTARC will take place on Wednesday 10th February 2021 at the
NTARC Club Rooms, Rocherlea Scout Hall, Archer Street Rocherlea commencing at 19:30 hours (7.30 pm).
Business at the AGM will consist of confirmation of the Minutes of the 2020 AGM, then reception and consideration of reports fr
om the Committee, including the Treasurerâ€Ös report and reports from our various managers and coordinators. This will be follo
wed by the election of officer bearers and committee person for 2021. The meeting will then consider any item of special busine
ss for which the requisite notice has been received by the closing date.
All current office holder and committee positions fall vacant at the AGM. Nominations for each office bearer and the Committee
member are invited and should be made in writing to the Secretary, along with the signatures of the Nominator, Seconder and tha
t of the member nominated. Appointments will also be required to the positions of Internal Auditor and Public Officer.
Please note that for your convenience a nomination form will be available from the NTARC club room from Monday 4th January 2021
, our first day of opening for the coming year.
Members are reminded that they will need to have paid their 2021 renewal subscription before the meeting commences at 19:30 hou
rs (7.30 pm) to be able to vote at the Annual General meeting. Similarly, they will need to have paid their 2021 subscription b
efore they can be nominated or nominate or second someone for office, as only financial members can exercise those privileges.
The AGM will be followed by the February General meeting.
Coffee mornings – currently every Friday in the NTARC Club rooms. Catch up time is from 10.00 am to noon and we look forward
to seeing you all.
Please remember that aside from the good company, freely offered philosophical views, maybe less than expert political analysis
, tall tales, funny stories and genuinely good fare on offer, these coffee events in the past have been normally a good opportu
nity to collect your QSL cards. Currently we have a few cards awaiting collection from past deliveries.
As I remind all each week, please demonstrate your appreciation of all the effort that goes into operating the club, its facili
ties and the other services we provide, especially in these abnormal and very trying times, enjoying the company, coffee, biscu
its and cake and leaving a gold coin or two, or even a small bank note, in the jar to assist in our on-going operations.
After the December General Meeting, we can really celebrate bringing club life back to normal, while still balancing the need f
or continuing caution and with all complying with the social distancing requirements.
Christmas and New Year closure – the last day the Club will be open in 2020 for coffee mornings will be Friday 18th December.
We re-open on Friday 8th January 2021.
This gives all members and especially the team that set up each week some down time to celebrate with family and friends.
Finally
A reminder to all members that if you have any items of news you would like added to our weekly roundup, no matter how trivial,
then please email me at the following address ntarc.emails @ gmail.com , all items to be received no later than 17:00 on the F
riday prior to the Broadcast.
Your continued cooperation in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
We will bring you all such contributions next Sunday morning.
