Contest News
Summer VHF/UHF Field Day
Not long to go now for the Summer Field day for VHF/UHF amateurs. The contest is on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of January
from 01:00 UTC – 01:00 UTC. This is a great opportunity to get that VHF/UHF gear out and give it a bit a run. This is the se
ason for all sorts of unpredictable propagation on the higher bands so you just never know how far and wide you will get to. Pl
ease try and use one of the great logging programs as your log can be uploaded from within the log program. We are happy to off
er some assistance with installing, using and then how to check and then send your log using the program VKCL. It is important
to make sure that all entries are done accurately, as there have been quite a few mistakes and lost points due to errors in cal
l signs, report exchanges, band, mode etc so bear that in mind.
Frequencies are not set in stone but a good start 6M – 50.150 USB or 52.525 FM, 2M 144.150 USB or 146.500 FM, 70cm 432.150 US
B or 439.000 FM, 23cm 1296.150 USB or FM, 13cm 2403.150 USB, 9cm 3398.150 USB, 3cm 10,368.150 USB.
Hope to hear you on the bands!

Northern Tasmanian Amateur Radio Club Incorporated
With New Year celebrations been and gone we are now in 2021. We trust all celebrated in a safe manner. Hopefully 2021 will be k
inder to us all.
On with the news, although as it is still the holiday season, and the Club room has yet to reopen, not much has changed. If the
re have been any amazing developments on the local radio front, word has yet to reach your scribe, so it will once again be lar
gely a repeat of coming events.
Before that happens though we hand over to Nic VK7WW, who provides us with a run down on what happened last Wednesday 30th Dece
mber2020 TestNet and TechNet
â€The Internet Discord Channel was on at the same time as the HF Nets allowing users to hear streaming audio and post comments.
? VK7ALB, Peter with his Collins KWM-2A talked about the many mods and excellent documentation available. A radio used by the A
ustralian military in the 1960s.
? Ross, VK7ALH tried different power levels. Heâ€Ös also discovered a ‘pet rodentâ€Ö that had been feeding off rubber covered
wire in a large 60kg auto transformer - a heavy-duty re-wiring job! Then his techniques in drilling 25mm thick S/Steel bolt!..
And progress with the North East Railway heritage.
? VK7ZPE, Peter and VK7KT, Graham called-in to give signal reports- thank you!
? VK2XRC/P, Richard was operating portable from his motor home in Eden with a 7100 - welcome to the TechNet!
? VK2STG, Steven in Cooma is restoring a Series 1 Land Rover; and....
? Peter, VK7PD reviewed a receiver in the latest copy of Silicon Chip Magazine, based on an Arduino - but it didnâ€Öt come up t
o spec for radio amateurs, having 5 kHz steps.
Finally, Paul VK7KPA had an issue with his rig, only to discover that a new piece of software had taken control of his rig and
changed Menu Settings! Soon fixed with a discussion with Nic VK7WW! But it did cause some head scratching!
Thank you Paul VK7KPA for hosting Discord - with 6 stations logged-on.
On line topics and photos included:
? Tony, VK7YBGs antennas
? Peter VK7PDs discussion about the Silicon Chip Radio article and suggested improvements - a great idea Peter!
? a picture of Nicâ€Ös AM station, ready for next year
? Paul VK7KPA and his first Slow Scan TV picture from VK3CHI; and
? a very small and simple valve AM transmitter circuit from 1964, from Nic VK7WW
Again thank you to everyone who made the Nets such a success through this year, including:
? Short Wave Listeners and Radio Amateurs who also listen in, but canâ€Öt transmit; and
? Those who listen to the net on SDRs around the world via the Internet, wherever you may be!
We are all looking forward to a great New Year in 2021. So please get your AM gear for the Test Net...and then join the NTARC T
echNet!
