During August 18, 2026, seismic activity in Central America and its immediate border regions was led by a strong magnitude 5.7 quake (locally adjusted between 5.2 and 5.6) at the northern tectonic boundary, in addition to basal micro-seismicity recorded by the agencies of the region.

    05:02:32 UTC (Frontera Guatemala - Mexico):
        Magnitude: 5.7 M_w (Initially reported as 5.2 by INSIVUMEH and 5.6 preliminary by the IGC of Panama).
        Depth: 10 km (surface).
        Epicenter: Located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 95 km southwest of Puerto Madero (Mexico) and about 119 km west-southwest of Ciudad Tecún Umán, San Marcos, Guatemala. He was strongly sensitive in the Guatemalan West. 
    07:50 UTC approx. (Volcano Baru, Panama):
        Magnitude: 3.0 M_w.
        Depth: 10 km.
        Epicenter: Local event of instrumental tecto-volcanic origin, located about 12 km southwest of the Baru Volcano, in the province of Chiriquí, Panama. It was not perceived by the population. 
    13:00 UTC approx. (Southern Panama / Pacific Ocean):
        Magnitude: 3.2 M_w.
        Depth: Less than 15 km (surface).
        Epicenter: Registered in the Panama Fracture Zone (sea block south of the isthmus). No perception report on dry land. 
    18:00 UTC approx. (Volcano Concepción, Nicaragua):
        Magnitude: 3.0 M_w.
        Depth: 10 km.
        Epicenter: Low intensity instrumental earthquake located about 7 km west of Concepción Volcano, on the Island of Ometepe, Nicaragua. 
    23:05 UTC (Pacific Coast of Costa Rica):
        Magnitude: 2.1 M_w.
        Depth: 15 km.
        Epicenter: Located in the southern border area, approximately 18 km southeast of Golfito, Puntarenas, Costa Rica
