There is no hurricane, tropical storm or organized depression threatening or heading directly to
Central America for next week. Active cyclones at this time, such as Tropical Storm Lala in the
Pacific (which hits the Hawaiian Islands), are located thousands of miles away in open water and
pose no danger to the isthmus.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) confirms that the major cyclogenesis potential for the western
Caribbean is zero (0éin the next 7 days. However, the region will suffer the indirect effects of
minor systems and developing disturbances that will cause severe damage:
Systems under monitoring and indirect impacts

Tropical Wave AL98 / Sequential Waves: The NHC keeps under surveillance an active tropical wave
in the central Caribbean. Although it has low chances of becoming an organized cyclone due to the
strong wind shear generated by El Niño, its advance will push accelerated trade winds and massive
masses of moisture to the coasts of the Central American Caribbean.

Interaction with the ZCIT (Trawl Effect): The passage of these low-pressure waves will interact
directly with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ZCIT), causing continuous torrential downpours
and severe thunderstorms in the afternoon, mainly in the south of the region (Panama and Costa Rica).
