N5VLZ:
GE All, and welcome to the March 16 2026 PCL Net.
Early checkin from our traveling ham, Charley, NT5R.
Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Scott, Carl, Bob (OK),
Rick, David, Glenn, and Flip...and whoever else may
show up.
With my erratic internet connection, I chose to move
my comments to the scribe...I hope things are better
next week. If I'm using iptelnet for this net, or
Echolink, the VPN has to be turned off. It's a bit
of a nuisance, but I'll make it work.
I hope everyone had a good Easter, and didn't eat
too much candy (hi hi). I was kept busy doing square
dancing website updates, and preparing the new audio
transcript for the latest QCWA e-Journal. Two very
interesting articles were in this month's issue...
the history of Radio Shack (before it was acquired
by Tandy Corporation), and "The DXCC entity that
never was". The week was so exhausting that I slept
much of Saturday, since I didn't have any nets to
run. But yesterday, I ran 2 nets, checked into a ham
radio club Zoom Meeting, and checked into 4 others...
2 of them via remotehams.com -- the bands were lousy
as usual.
We need rain badly down here, but it looks like most
of the rain will be in eastern Oklahoma and western
Arkansas. We are supposed to get storms from Wednesday
night into Thursday, plus Saturday and Saturday night.
Other parts of the country are getting blasted by
severe weather, including tornadoes, and very large
hail. Ryan Hall, KJ4WHM, is live on his YouTube Channel
right now. Much of Arkansas is in severe or exceptional
drought. My lawn man is coming by in the morning, as the
weeds are growing faster than the grass.
Two weeks from today, April 27, marks 19 years since I
lost my XYL. I'm going to need emotional support and
my hobbies to pull me through that day. I saw a video
on YouTube from "America By Rail" with coast to coast
trip from Washington, DC, to Chicago, IL, to Emeryvile,
CA, along with several excursion lines along the way.
One of the young ladies in a scene from the Dining Car
looked a lot like my late wife.
My license exam team is doing a test on May 2, the last
one we'll be doing before the current Technician Class
Pool changes. With scheduling, we had to work around
graduation day on campus, as traffic is a nightmare on
that day. I'll print up some new exam books next week.
I'm starting to save money for the Huntsville Hamfest
trip...can't believe it's just over 4 months away. I
just hope that the event won't be disrupted by weather
or something else...as that's getting toward the peak
of hurricane season. I'm not looking forward to the
long bus ride, but it was better than driving. I'll
still have other regional day trips to Shreveport, LA,
and Mena, AR...but I'm wanting a break for a few days.
A fellow ham in Illinois, N9NJS, who refers to us as
"hamsters", came up with new alternate phoentics for
his callsign suffix. He said a fellow ham could not
remember his callsign, so he came up with "Not Just
Sexy". I told him I was going to send him a laundry
bill...or "That's What She Said"...as he's now known
as "a sexy hamster". With friends like us, you don't
need any enemies (hi hi).
GE Bob...how was your week?? >>>
**
NS2B:
GE All.
Yep, a good Easter - we went out to MaryJo's daughters
husbands brothers place. Sounds like a comedy skit!
Good eatin' and fellowship were had!
Not much new happening around here - still pondering
Hamword.
HF has been in the pits, so nothing going there.
That's all for me - BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (NY), FB on the holiday eatings and HamWord. I
concur with the poor HF conditions.
GE Scott, how was your week??
**
K0WAV:
Hello Daryl thanks for NCS and Bob for the venue,
Last two weeks was good.
The Solars are weak. SFI 99, A of 4, and K of 0
so yeah HF is limping.
Got the Clubs new System Fusion and Wires-X Repeater
online finally. Node 79363 Room 89363. Room name is
K5AA-Room
Yeah I know the room name is lame but my brain was
burned by that time of the process. haha
And, I got volun-told to do the System Fusion and
Wires-X presentation at the club meeting this past
Saturday...
So all I have, still recoving from the American to
Japan thinking process translation that is Yaesu
and their implementations.
BTU >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Scott, "volun-told" is an extension of N.A.V.Y. --
"Never Again Volunteer Yourself". As was noted, I
agree with the poor HF conditions. FB on the Fusion
and Wires-X nodes. As for the brain burn, it's the
Haven't Any Memory meaning of H.A.M.
Rumor has it that Kenwood is getting out of the ham
radio business, as they only appear to show up at
Hamvention in Xenia...but not at Hamcation in Orlando
or the Huntsville Hamfest.
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All. Well, the Easter Bunny was good to me; Carrie
hid a basket for me, it wound up being inside the
clothes dryer. hi hi.
Put in my first HAMWORD guess this morning (first for
the week, that is) but have not checked in for the
response yet. I do try to string it out over the week,
but then I usually breakdown and finish it in one day.
Oh, well.
Just had the electrician in to prepare a space for the
fiber internet modem ... assuming it ever comes. They
are still running fiber throughout the community and
running late as construction projects tend to do.
Also, I wish HF would wake up a bit so I can play with
my new portable vertical.
That's about it for me. Back to net >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Carl, FB on the deal in the dryer...at least it was
secure and warm (hi hi). I never did get to start
HAMWORD.
On the repair delay, it reminds me of a meme where
the surgeon encounters a repairman who took awhile
to fix a deal at his place. So, he told the patient
"I'll finish things another day" (hi hi).
Not sure when HF will cooperate.
GE Bob (OK)...how was your week?? I know you're under
the weather bullseye this week. >>>
**
KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all on the net! Yes, always have to keep
eye to the sky this time of year.
After trying occasionally for over 2 years to get ft8
qsl from Delaware on 60m, finally got it this last week.
Which means I have worked all states now on 10-80meters.
WooHoo!!
Now what??? Maybe try 6m or switch over to FT4???
Had a great Easter. After church, went up to Oklahoma City
(about 25min from here) with daughter's family and had a
great (not so traditional) Mexican dinner. Nice weather,
beautiful Day!
That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (OK), I think the geographic spot of the most tornadoes
in the US is Moore, Oklahoma.
Congratulations on getting WAS on 10 through 80 meters!!
Whatever you think is best for another award.
FB on the Easter dinner...I've known some folks who'd have
pizza on Thanksgiving...whatever works for you.
GE Rick, how was your week??
**
VA7RBP:
GE Daryl and all on NET.
We had a quiet Easter, the family was off doing their own
thing. On Easter Sunday, Arlene and I drove up to Kaslo
and had dinner at the Kaslo Hotel, a nice four hour drive
there and back.
On the radio front, HF has been poor, as has already been
mentioned, but I have tried to do the usual 40M and 20M
PACTOR in the mornings anyway. Calling 2M FM NETS on
Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, and doing the PREOC NETS
on Wednesday nights in Nelson. Weeknights, I still try to
do 80M OLIVIA 16/1K NET.
Saturdays, I've been doing the breakfast and coffee sessions
with the radio club guys in Castlegar and Nelson, and chores
around the house. Last week, I started planting radishes and
carrotts in our garden planters. The rhubarb has started
coming up as well.
Today, I received the new irrigarion conroller from AMAZON,
and spent some time today swapping the wiring ifrom the old
unit to the new one.
Daytime temperatures are now into the 50s and 60's, but they
are still getting down to the 30s at night.
That's about it... so BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Rick, FB on the Easter dinner, the ham radio things, the
breakfast and coffee sessions, the gardening, and the
weather.
GE David...glad to have you with us. When you're done,
type >>> and I'll take it back.
**
KR8X:
GE Daryl and everyone else
I've had a pretty good week. After seeing all the messages
about pacnet, I was able to setup a link and join for my
first time.
Pretty quiet here at the qth, just me and the xyl.
My rms node was down with a bad radio, but the cable came
in and now it is back on the air. Had issues with connecting
to the CMS and it magically fixed itself.
Didn't do much on the radio but I have been working with
ohb.hamclock.app, the new backend server for hamclock. We
are testing 4.23 beta 2 and soon it may be widely available.
I've been working on a small prototype to allow users to
specify the antennas being used for tx and rx so propagation
will be closer to reality.
That's about all for me. Thanks everyone. Back to Net
Control. >>>>
**
N5VLZ:
David, we're here most Mondays, unless I'm doing Arkansas
Skywarn...or during the weeks of Easter, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
New Years. We're glad to have you with us tonight.
Glad the RMS node is working again...I have to connect to
RMS Express for Winlink via a CMS. FB on the Hamclock app
development.
GE Glenn, how was your week?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
GE all, not to much to report from here a little under
the weather today.
Getting ready this months PKTNET that starts on Sunday,
we be asking for NTS message this month. Should be a
good test for the packet network.
Also continuing to test the Winlink to Packet Gateway,
so far its work well.
That is all for not and btn>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Glenn, sorry to hear you're under the weather...hope you
get to feeling better soon. FB on the PKTNET and on the
Winlink to Packet Gateway.
I guess we lost Flip, N9AZZ...but I'll log him. That's
it for round one. Back to the top for final comments.
Bob (NY), thanks for the use of the BBS. Anything else
for us?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Forgot to mention of all things - my NAS died! I've
been troubleshooting for most of the day - looks like
it has a bad drive without reporting it! that's not
good - ah well - i'll get fixed or replaced
Everyone have a good week - 73 es GN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (NY), Bummer on the NAS failure...good luck on
getting it fixed. Thanks for being here.
Scott, anything else?? >>>
**
K0WAV:
Yes Yes, pollen is bad, may take up pollen mining
if there is market for you...
And on the net issues.... Skuttlebutt has it that
we are experiencing lots of DNS and dDOS activities
since the world events have kicked off.
Be safe out there and 73 and GN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Scott, thanks for being here. The weeds are growing,
but the grass hasn't started that much yet.
I had to turn off the POP and SMTP ports on the BBS,
as hackers were slamming them, trying to use them as
relay points for their email, and I also disabled
uploads.
Thanks for being here.
Carl, anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
I will add my "welcome" to David. It is always good
to have someone new log in. 73 to all and GN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Carl...see you next time. We
are always glad for new checkins. We had 10 on the
log tonight.
Bob (OK), anything else?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
Hi David! Come back and visit anytime!
Love the "pollen mining" idea. Will have to use that.
Thanks to Bob (NY and Daryl for making this net happen.
73 to all and BTU Net>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (OK), they had a Pollen Storm Warning here with
4 inches of accumulation (hi hi). I guess we need to
stake our claim (hi hi). Thanks for being here.
Rick, anything else?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
Nope, that's all I have for this week.
Thanks for doing the NET Daryl and thanks to BOB for
the BBS/CHAT space.
Everyone have a great week, stay well, 73 until next time.
BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Rick, thanks for being here...see you next week.
David, again, thanks for being here. Anything else?? >>>
**
KR8X:
Thanks Daryl for being NC. Thanks BoB (NY) for the node
and for getting me setup with a link.
Great to meet y'all. 73 to all and GN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
David, hope you enjoyed it...come back and visit us again
soon.
Since we lost Flip, N9AZZ, Glenn, you get to wrap it up
tonight...anything else?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
No nothing more, good to see everyone one this evening.
73, btn>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Glenn, thanks for being here. Hope you get to feeling better.
That'll do it for tonight's net. I'll prepare the scribe in
the morning, while I wait on my lawn mowing guy to show up.
Everyone stay safe, healthy, weather aware, and radio-active.
73 and GN DE N5VLZ. >>>
