N5VLZ:

GE, all and welcome to the Aug 11 2025
PCL Net. Early checkin for Rick, VA7RBP,
as he likely is caring for his XYL after
knee replacement surgery.

Net order is Daryl, Bob, Carl, Glenn,
and whoever else shows up.

Back To School time also means Labor Day
is coming up, which is our next holiday.
The PCL Net will be offline on Sept. 1.

With my repeated disconnects this evening,
(and I didn't know I had quick disconnects
enabled), I will save my comments for the
net scribe, to posted in the morning.

Travis, KB5ILY...Tim, K5TLG, and myself,
went to the Shreveport Hamfest this past
Saturday. Before the hamfest, we tried
to eat at a McDonald's, but while their
drive thru was open, the dining room was
not. So, we went to a Burger King across
the street.

I wore my Train Conductor's Outfit, and
had my smartphone as a hotspot, to work
with my laptop computer, to do the QCWA
Sunflower Net. Due to logistics, we did
not get power, but I had enough battery
power on both to do the net. Travis won
a $100 DX Engineering Gift Certificate,
but the 3 of us "won" at David Baird's
Catfish King in Bossier City afterwards.

I chose to order mozarella sticks as an
appetizer, then fish, cole slaw, french
fries, and hush puppies. Travis and Tim
got a salad bar, then catfish with all
the trimmings. Needless to say, we ate
rather well, and I was caught drinking
heavily, for guzzling a pitcher of sweet
tea, and I did not dare test my glucose
afterwards (hi hi).

I pulled a boner when I got my tongue
tied, noting "a schematic on a resistor",
instead of vice versa. That must be one
big resistor, or maybe I'm thinking of
Violet (hi hi). I sent NS2B some of the
photos.

We picked up some new members with QCWA
Chapter 158, and I'm processing them,
plus preparing membership certificates
and cards. We all crashed out Saturday
night, as none of us got a decent nights
rest the night before, but we made good
time down and back.

Fire danger and burn bans are increasing
with maybe some scattered storms this
week. I'm content with a lawn mow only
once a month. I saw where Erin has formed
in the Atlantic, and while she's forecast
to become a major hurricane, it's too
early to know if she'll just be a fish
storm, and a threat to shipping, or if
she'll threaten land areas.

Since I didn't win the big cash prize at
Shreveport, I won't be going to Huntsville,
Alabama for their Hamfest this weekend. I
may look at possibly going to HandiHam Radio
Camp next September, but that's the least
of my worries right now.

I'm back to a peanut butter and jelly
sandwich and fruit punch diet...but next
month, I may look at low sodium microwave
bacon, with lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo for
BLT sandwiches. However, that waits until
September. I had a good visit at the foot
doctor today, with no more scheduled medical
stuff until October.

GE Bob...how was your week?? >>>

**

NS2B:

GE All!

It was hot! Didn't do much radio wise,
played around with DVSwitch and the USRP
Client. Figured out how to use macros with
it. It wasn't obvious in my estimation.

Spent the weekend down at the track for the
NASCAR races. It was plenty warm at the
campsite. Thankfuly we had shade and a breeze.

Not much else happening here. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, FB on the DVSwitch and USRP client. Lots of
the stuff you have to dig for. FB on the NASCAR
races. The humidity at Shreveport was murder.

GE Scott, you'll be after Glenn.

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

GE All.

My week was not too bad, but I am collecting too
many doctors. Had a CT scan this morning, hoping
it was a waste of time and they find nothing :-)

Definitely trying to stay indoors as much as
possible.

I got the HF antenna working again after the
roofers finished, so I should try to get on HF
again some.

I also got the most recent QST today and was
looking at that. There is a review of EggNOGs ...
kits for making egg beater antennas. Looks
interesting and not too pricey, so I think I
will try a couple of them. (They come in
particular frequency ranges). See if I can
catch some satellites.

Otherwise, working on fixing up an old clock
radio, was working on the old switches and
stuff today ... and I had to find a source
for old tuning cable tensioning springs. It
is wierd to order just one tiny spring, but
that is what I did. I expect to get it around
Wednesday.

That's about it for now. Just plugging along.

Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, I saw my podiatrist this morning...good
report. Next visits in October to the podiatrist
and to the PCP, then 1 more podiatrist visit
just before Christmas. I hope I can get the
medical stuff out of the way soon.

It is hot and dry here, and FB on the EggNog
antennas, but the mention of food makes me hungry
(hi hi). I get QST online, and I thought the
September issue would be out, but not yet.

GE Glenn, how was your week?? >>>

**

N3MEL:

Evening All,

It has been very nice weather here the last week
or so; it has been a need relief for sure. I see
the flooding in WI pretty bad and a Winlink 213
came into TPRFN this evening looking for additional
Ham's to assist with ARES activities. I turned the
message around and sent it out over Packet to WI,
IL & IN so we will see if they get any additional
help.

Getting ready for the Aug PKTNET which starts this
coming Sunday; and for this month, we are asking the
check in station send an ICS-213 from FLmsg.

Well thats it for now btu Daryl>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Glenn, I saw the reports of flooding in Milwaukee,
but crazy weather is worldwide this year. FB on the
PKTNET and WinLink Deal.

GE Scott, how was your week?? >>>

**

K0WAV:

GE all on the net and Daryl for NCS and Bob for the
Venue.

Week was kind a of boring... WX was hot and dry.

Spent most of the radio time working on revamping
shack power to make it more "uninteruptible" not
perfect but better.

I did do a little RF work, and lo and behold I got
final confirmation to get my Work All States 5BAND
award!

That was the highlight of the week for me.

Daryl, BTU>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Scott, first congratulations on 5band WAS...now you
need 5 band DXCC (hi hi). FB on the shack power, as
that stuff tends to die out quick. Weather wise, the
fall and winter could be active...but we'll find out
soon.

That's it for round 1...back to the top for final
comments.

Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS. Anything
else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

Nothing more here - everyone stay cool, and have a
good week - 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

73 Bob. You can reboot the node after the net, as
I won't get to post the scribe until tomorrow.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Nothing more from this end. 73s to all and see you
next week >>>

**

N5VLZ:

73 Carl...stay on the cool side of the door.

Glenn, anything else?? >>>

**

N3MEL:

Not much more from here, except congrats Scott on the
award!

And Bob, we will be up your way in Sept for a week
camping at Senica lake.

73 and GN all...

**

N5VLZ:

73 Glenn...hope the camping deal goes well.

Scott, anything else?? >>>

**

K0WAV:

Thanks for the flowers on the award, and Daryl, I
am 3 of 5 on the DXCC 5 Band...but 80 is going to
be a real stretch for 100watts and a wire.

That's it for me BTU>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Scott, FB and GL on 5 band DXCC. Thanks for being here.

That will do it for tonight's net. I'll post the scribe
on Tuesday, due to another net tonight, and Bob will be
rebooting the node, as I was getting disconnected like
mad earlier. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
